The fast growing technology in automotive has made possible to replace convensional transmission system on motorcycle with automatic transmission system to ease the rider. The development of automatic transmission system on motorcycle is intended to replace the convensional transmission system (semi automatic) with automatic transmission system by using microcontroller as brain of the new system.
The final project used ATMEL 89C51 microcontroller to recieve pulse from wheel rotation sensor as a reference to energise DC motor to change transmission gear. This system used first gear at speed 0-18 kh/h, second gear at speed 19-37 km/h, third gear at speed 38-60 km/h and fourth gear at speed above 60km/h.
The result of the experiment shown that the respons of this automatic transmission system is slower than convensional system. The experiment had shown that to reach velocity from 0 to 60 km/h, the automatic transmission system need 14.73 seconds, meanwhile convenssional system need 13,59 seconds.
